New Research and Current Challenges in Infectious Disease Medicine: Abstracts from the 18th All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases Published
The proceedings of the 18th Annual All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases named after Academician V. I. Pokrovsky, held in Moscow from March 30 to April 1, 2026, have been published. The volume presents the findings of Russian and international researchers addressing current issues in infectious disease medicine. Spanning 218 pages, it brings together a broad range of scientific and clinical materials.
One of the volume’s key features is the breadth of topics covered. The authors examine the etiology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of infectious diseases; current capabilities in laboratory and instrumental diagnostics; the clinical course of infections; and new approaches to their treatment and prevention.
A substantial section is devoted to viral infections and respiratory diseases, viral hepatitis, HIV infection, COVID-19, and infections in children, as well as antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections. Other papers focus on the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, mycoses, parasitic diseases, and naturally occurring focal infections.
The materials reflect current changes in the epidemiology of infectious diseases and highlight the need for a comprehensive approach to their control. Alongside studies of widespread infections, the authors address rare and complex clinical cases, new diagnostic approaches, immune response, and opportunities to improve preventive measures.
Particular importance is attached to research focused on the practical application of scientific findings. The abstracts present data that may help specialists improve diagnostic algorithms, select treatment strategies, organize preventive measures, and conduct epidemiological surveillance.
The volume provides an overview of the current state of Russia’s infectious disease research community and the diverse areas in which scientific work is developing today. Its contributors include specialists from research institutions, medical universities, and clinical organizations working across various fields of infectious disease medicine.
