WHO Sets Priorities for Cooperation with Armenia for 2026–2030

The World Health Organization (WHO) has presented its new Country Cooperation Strategy with Armenia for 2026–2030. The five-year strategy sets out the key priorities for cooperation between WHO and Armenia and marks a shift from short-term two-year planning towards a longer-term approach. The strategy is aimed at achieving sustainable improvements in public health and takes into account Armenia’s national priorities, as well as WHO and United Nations programmes.

The new strategy is designed to support the further strengthening of Armenia’s national health system and its capacity to respond to the changing health needs of the population. WHO plans to align its technical support more closely with national priorities and focus on achieving sustainable results rather than implementing individual projects in isolation. The strategy is also aligned with the priorities of the Government of Armenia and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030.

An important element of the new approach is the continued development of accessible and high-quality health services, including primary health care. The strategy promotes a people-centred health system capable of addressing the needs of the population regardless of where people live or their socioeconomic circumstances. Strengthening the health system is viewed as a comprehensive task involving workforce development, improved quality of care and more effective use of available resources.

Disease prevention, immunization and health emergency preparedness remain important areas of cooperation. WHO’s support includes strengthening national capacities to address public health threats and ensuring that prevention and preparedness are more effectively integrated into the broader health system.

Overall, the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy for 2026–2030 establishes a more systematic and long-term framework for cooperation with Armenia. Its priorities include strengthening national health system capacity, improving access to and quality of health services, supporting disease prevention and enhancing the resilience of the health system. The results of the strategy are expected to contribute to Armenia’s national health priorities and progress towards universal health coverage.
